1 Now the Spirit speaketh
expressly, that in the latter times some
shall depart from the faith,
giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines
of devils;
2 Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having
their conscience seared with a hot iron;
3 Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath
created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the
truth. 1 Timothy 4:1-3
19 Behold, a whirlwind
of the Lord is gone forth in fury, even a grievous
whirlwind: it shall fall grievously upon the head of the wicked.
20 The anger of the Lord
shall not return, until he have
executed, and till he have performed the thoughts of his heart: in the
latter days ye shall consider it perfectly.
21 I
have not
sent these prophets, yet they ran: I
have not spoken to them, yet they prophesied.
22 But if
they had stood in my counsel, and had caused my people to hear my words,
then they should have turned them
from their evil way, and from the evil of their doings.
23 Am I a God at hand, saith the Lord, and
not a God afar off?
24 Can any hide himself in secret places that I shall not see him?
saith the Lord.
Do not I fill heaven and earth? saith
the Lord. Jeremiah
23:19-24
1 This know also, that in the last days perilous
times shall come.
2 For men shall be lovers of their own selves,
covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient
to parents, unthankful, unholy,
3 Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false
accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good,
4 Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than
lovers of God;
2 Timothy 3:1-4
3 But inasmuch as they
were not faithful they were nigh unto cursing.
4 Therefore,
inasmuch as some of my servants have not kept the commandment,
but have broken the covenant through covetousness, and with feigned words,
I have cursed them with a
very sore and grievous curse.
8 Therefore,
inasmuch as you are found transgressors, you cannot
escape my wrath in your lives.
9 Inasmuch as ye are cut off for transgression, ye cannot
escape the buffetings of Satan until the day of redemption.
10 And
I now give unto you power from this very hour, that if any man among you,
of the order, is found a transgressor
and
repenteth not of the evil, that ye shall deliver him over unto the
buffetings of Satan; and he shall not have power to bring evil upon
you. Doctrine and Covenants 104:3, 8-10
5 But after thy hardness and impenitent heart
treasurest up unto thyself wrath against
the day of wrath and
revelation of the righteous judgment of God;
6 Who will render to every man according to his deeds:
7 To them who by patient continuance in
well doing seek for glory and honour and immortality, eternal life:
8 But unto them that
are contentious, and do not obey the truth, but
obey unrighteousness, indignation and wrath,
9 Tribulation and anguish, upon every soul
of man that doeth evil, of the Jew first, and also of the Gentile;
10 But
glory, honour, and peace, to every man that worketh good, to the Jew
first, and also to the Gentile:
11 For there is no respect of persons with
God.
12 For
as many as have sinned without law shall also perish without law:
and as many as have sinned in the law shall be judged by the law;
13 (For
not
the hearers of the law are just before God, but
the doers of the law shall be justified.
Romans
2:5-13
2 Preach the word; be instant in
season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and
doctrine.
3 For
the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their
own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;
4 And
they shall turn away their ears
from
the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.
5 But watch thou in all things, endure afflictions, do the
work of an evangelist,
make full proof of thy ministry. 2 Timothy 4:2-4
8 And I said unto them: Have ye inquired of the Lord?
9 And they said unto me: We have not; for the Lord maketh
no such thing known unto us.
10 Behold,
I said unto them: How is it that ye do not
keep the commandments of the Lord? How is it that ye will perish, because
of the hardness of your hearts?
11 Do ye not remember the things
which the Lord hath said?—If ye will
not harden your hearts, and ask me in faith, believing that ye shall
receive, with diligence in keeping my commandments, surely these things
shall be made known unto you. 1 Nephi 15:8-11
3 Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days
scoffers, walking after their own lusts,
4 And
saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the
fathers fell asleep,
all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.
5 For
this they
willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of
old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water:
6 Whereby
the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished:
7 But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same
word are kept in store, reserved
unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men. 2 Peter 3:3-7
5 I am the Lord, and there is none else, there
is no God beside me: I girded thee, though thou hast not known
me:
6 That
they may know from the rising of the sun, and from the west, that there is
none beside me.
I am the Lord,
and there is none else.
7 I form the light, and create
darkness: I
make peace, and create evil:
I the Lord do all these things. Isaiah 45:5-7
6 All
we,
like sheep, have gone astray; we have turned every one to his
own way;
and the Lord hath laid on him the
iniquities of us all.
7 He was oppressed, and he was afflicted,
yet he opened not his mouth; he is
brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb
so he opened not his mouth.
8 He was taken from prison and from
judgment; and who shall declare his generation? For he was cut off out of the land of the living; for the
transgressions of my people was he stricken. Mosiah
14:6-8
2 Yea,
concerning that which was to come, and
also concerning the resurrection of the dead, and the redemption of the people,
which was to be brought to pass through the power, and sufferings, and death of
Christ, and his resurrection and ascension into heaven. Mosiah
18:2
4 And it shall come to pass that I will
smite this my people with sore afflictions, yea, with famine and
with pestilence; and I will cause that they shall howl all the day long.
7 And
they shall be smitten with a great pestilence—and all this will I do because
of their iniquities and abominations.
8 And it shall come to pass that except they repent I will utterly
destroy them from off the face of the earth; yet they shall leave a
record behind them, and I will preserve them for other nations which shall
possess the land; yea, even this will
I do that I may discover the abominations of this people to other nations.
And many things did Abinadi prophesy against this people. Mosiah
12:4,7-8
6 Shall a trumpet be blown in the city, and the people not
be afraid? shall there be evil in a city, and the Lord
hath not done it?
7 Surely the Lord God will do
nothing, but he revealeth his secret unto his servants
the prophets.
Amos 3:6-7
4 And thus we see, that there was a time granted unto man to repent,
yea, a probationary time, a time to repent and serve God.
5 For behold, if Adam had put forth his hand
immediately, and partaken of the tree of life, he would have lived forever,
according to the word of God, having no
space for repentance; yea, and also the word of God would have been void, and the great plan of salvation would
have been frustrated. Alma 42:4-5
61 Therefore
it is given to abide in you; the
record of heaven; the Comforter; the peaceable things of immortal
glory; the truth of all things; that
which quickeneth all things, which maketh alive all things; that which knoweth all things,
and hath all power according to wisdom, mercy, truth, justice, and judgment.
62 And now, behold, I say
unto you: This is the plan of salvation unto all
men, through the blood of mine Only
Begotten, who shall come in the meridian of time.
63 And behold, all things have
their likeness, and all things are created and made to bear record of me, both things which are temporal, and things
which are spiritual; things which are in the heavens above, and things which are on the earth, and things which
are in the earth, and things which are under the earth, both above and beneath:
all things bear record of me. Moses 6:61-63
17 But, beloved, remember ye the words
which were spoken before of the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ;
18 How
that they told you there should be mockers in the last time,
who should walk after their own ungodly lusts.
19 These
be they who separate themselves, sensual, having not the
Spirit.
Jude 17-19
13 Then if our hearts have been hardened, yea, if we have hardened our
hearts against the word,
insomuch that it has not been found in us, then will our state be awful, for then we shall be condemned.
14 For our words will condemn us, yea, all our works will condemn us; we shall
not be found spotless; and our thoughts will also condemn us;
and in
this awful state we shall not dare to look up to our God; and we
would fain be glad if we could command
the rocks and the mountains to fall upon us to hide us from his presence. Alma
12:13-14
36 The glory of God is intelligence, or, in other words, light
and truth.
37 Light and truth forsake that evil one.
38 Every spirit of man was innocent in the
beginning; and God having redeemed man from the fall, men became again, in
their infant state, innocent before God.
39 And that wicked one cometh and taketh away light and truth, through disobedience,
from the children of men, and because of the tradition
of their fathers.
40 But
I have commanded you to bring up your children in light and truth.
Doctrine and Covenants 93:36-40
6 Yea,
today, if ye will
hear his voice, harden not your hearts; for why
will ye die?
7 For behold, after ye have been nourished by
the good word of God all the day long, will ye bring forth evil fruit, that ye must be hewn down
and cast into the fire?
8 Behold, will ye reject these words? Will ye
reject the words of the prophets;
and will ye reject all the words which have been spoken concerning Christ,
after so many have spoken concerning him;
and
deny the good word of Christ, and the power of God, and the gift of the
Holy Ghost, and quench the Holy Spirit,
and
make a mock of the great plan of redemption, which hath
been laid for you?
9 Know ye not that if ye will do these things, that the power of the
redemption and the resurrection, which is in Christ, will bring you to stand with shame and awful guilt before the
bar of God? Jacob 6:6-9
31 And we know also, that sanctification through the grace of
our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ is just and true, to all those who love and serve God with all
their mights, minds, and strength.
32 But
there is a possibility that man may fall from grace and depart from the living God;
33 Therefore let the church take heed and pray
always, lest they fall into temptation;
34 Yea, and even let those who are sanctified take heed also.
Doctrine
and Covenants 20:31-34
27 And now I command you, that if you have good desires—a desire
to lay up treasures for yourself
in heaven—then shall you assist
in bringing to light, with your gift, those parts of my scriptures which have
been hidden because of iniquity.
28 And now, behold, I give unto you, and
also unto my servant Joseph, the keys of this gift, which shall bring to light
this ministry; and in the mouth of two or three witnesses shall every word be
established.
29 Verily, verily, I say unto you, if they reject my words,
and this part of my gospel and ministry,
blessed are ye, for they can do no more unto
you than unto me.
34 Therefore, fear not, little flock; do good;
let earth and hell combine against you, for if ye are built upon my rock, they cannot prevail.
35 Behold, I do not condemn you; go your
ways and sin no more; perform
with soberness the work which I have commanded you.
36 Look
unto me in every thought; doubt not, fear not.
37 Behold the wounds which pierced my side, and also the prints of the
nails in my hands and feet; be faithful, keep my commandments,
and ye shall inherit the kingdom of heaven. Amen. Doctrine
and Covenants 6:27-29, 34-37
24 And we see that death comes upon mankind, yea, the death which has been
spoken of by Amulek, which is the temporal death; nevertheless there was a space granted unto man in which he might
repent; therefore this life became a probationary state; a time to prepare
to meet God; a time to prepare for that endless state which
has been spoken of by us, which is after the resurrection of the dead.
25 Now, if it had not been for the plan
of redemption, which was laid from the foundation of the world, there
could have been no resurrection of the dead; but there was a plan of redemption laid,
which shall bring to pass the
resurrection of the dead, of which has been spoken. Alma 12:24-25
32 For behold, this life is the time for men to prepare
to meet God; yea,
behold the day of this life is the
day for men to perform their labors.
33 And now, as I said unto you before, as ye have had so many witnesses,
therefore,
I beseech of you that ye do not
procrastinate the day of your repentance until the end; for
after this day of life, which is
given us to prepare for eternity, behold, if we do not improve
our time while in this life, then cometh the night of darkness wherein there
can be no labor performed.
34 Ye cannot say, when ye are brought to that
awful crisis, that I will repent,
that I will return to my God. Nay, ye cannot say this; for that same spirit which doth possess
your bodies at the time that ye go out of this life, that
same spirit will have power to possess your body in that eternal world.
35 For behold, if ye have procrastinated the day of your
repentance even until death, behold, ye have become subjected to the spirit of
the devil, and he doth seal you his; therefore, the Spirit of the Lord
hath withdrawn from you, and hath no place in you, and the devil hath all power over you; and this is the final state
of the wicked.
Alma 34:32-35
1 And again, my brethren, I would cite your minds forward to the time
when the Lord God gave these commandments unto his children; and I would that
ye should remember that the Lord God ordained priests, after his holy order,
which was after the order of his Son, to teach these things unto the people.
2 And those
priests were ordained after the order of his Son, in a manner that
thereby the people might know in what manner to look forward to his Son for
redemption.
3 And this is the manner after which they were ordained—being called and
prepared from the foundation of the world according to the
foreknowledge of God,
on account of their exceeding faith and good works; in the first
place being left to choose good or evil; therefore they having chosen good, and
exercising exceedingly great faith,
are called with a holy calling, yea, with that holy calling which was
prepared with, and according to, a preparatory redemption for such.
4 And thus they
have been called to this holy calling on account of their faith, while others would reject
the Spirit of God on account of the hardness of their hearts and blindness of their minds, while, if it had not been for this
they might have had as great privilege as their brethren.
5 Or in fine, in the first place they were
on the same standing
with their brethren; thus this holy calling being prepared from the
foundation of the world for such as would
not harden their hearts, being in and through the atonement of the Only
Begotten Son, who was prepared—
6 And
thus being called by this holy calling, and ordained unto the high
priesthood of the holy order
of God, to teach
his commandments unto the children of
men, that they also might enter into his rest—
