Should the cores of these reactors meltdown, it would not cause the same level of wide spread contamination that was seen in the Ukraine and Northern Europe. Meltdown of the fuel rods of a BWR typically result in the aerosolized release of Iodine 131 (¹³¹I), Cesium 137 (¹³⁷Cs) and Strontium 90 (⁹⁰Sr).
